The
Mission of The mission of the Rescue the Russell Foundation, Inc., is to restore the Russell Theatre to its original splendor, preserving its unique exterior architecture and reinstating its sumptuous interior elegance, so that it can once again become a functioning element of historical Maysville, Kentucky and provide the community with quality entertainment and cultural enrichment through all aspects of the performing arts, as well as create educational opportunities for youth and adults to enhance understanding and enjoyment of life through the creation and presentation of the arts. In addition, a portion of the theatre will serve as a museum to Rosemary Clooney and her family in gratitude and in recognition of her many contributions to the community and theatre arts, and to honor her as Maysvilles Ambassador to the World.
Restoration Progress While the process of raising funds and completing a project of this size is an arduous one, the foundation is making significant progress. Through grants and small donations the roof of the theatre and annex have been replaced, the marquee restored and Phase 1 of the restoration completed. With the physical stability of the structure now secure, further decay prevented and the safety of those working in and around the facility ensured, work begins on Phase II, which includes all the engineering elements of the building such as electrical, plumbing and heating. Current total estimates for the theatres restoration exceed 3.5 million. To date approximately $350,000 has been raised. |
