& Rosemary: A Shared History

On June 4, 2002 "Patsy's Cookbook: Classic Italian Recipes from a New York City Landmark Restaurant" was published. The book was written by Sal Scognamillo, Patsy's grandson, co-owner & chef of the famous Italian restaurant. Included in the book are wonderful recipes from "the restaurant that Frank Sinatra made famous." In addition to the recipes, are anecdotes from family and friends of the restaurant, including Sal's Aunt Rosemary, as in Rosemary Clooney.

"Patsy's is the restaurant
  I go to the moment
  I arrive in New York.
I feel like I have family there."
  Rosemary Clooney

Rosemary had been going to Patsy's since 1948, when she and Betty first landed in New York. Rosemary loved Patsy's food, but more than that, she loved Patsy and his son Joey, and his son Sal. They were a part of her family and important and integral part of her history. She took dates there, her family there, had her book party there, celebrated birthdays there...it was an extension of her home. In Rosemary's book "Girl Singer" she described how Patsy let her run a tab for four months while she was struggling to make it as a singer in New York. She never forgot Patsy's kindness and she repayed it with over 50 years of loyalty and friendship to his family and his restaurant.

The book contains a couple photos of Rosemary as well as sprinklings of her throughout the book. You can't sit down to dinner with Rosemary, but if you're willing to try out a few of these recipies you can enjoy some of her favorite dishes in the comfort of your own home while she sings to you from your CD player.

Visit Patsy's website and order a gift basket of their famous sauces and products,
just like the ones Rosemary sent to her family & friends for Christmas.
